Gravitate Limited began life in early 2001, when it was launched by founding Directors Andrew Ferguson and John Lennard.

The company's early focus was on providing a unique and specialised web publishing service to the visual arts. This happened through the launch of www.artfind.co.nz, and was further advanced with the launch of the Virtual Curator web publishing and cataloging application a year later.
